Now that Spring is officially here, I’ll be returning to my regular smoothie programming.

Although this is not your average smoothie.


Obviously Acai has enjoyed its fair share of smoothie spotlight. But having been in Malta the past few years, the Brazilian fruit puree hadn’t arrived onto the island until very recently, thanks to Purple Pearl Malta. Since their arrival, I’ve been experimenting with different ways to use it, including mixing it up in cocktails like here.

My favourite way to use it, however,  is classicly in smoothies. I especially love whipping up this tropical version, tasting similar to a pina colada, and serving it up in hollowed out mini pineapples. They could also be set up for a breakfast party with a do-it-yourself topping station.

Tropical Acai Pineapple Bowl

Makes 2 Servings.


  • 1 mini pineapple
  • 1/4 cup frozen Acai puree
  • 1/4 coconut milk
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1/2 banana, frozen
  • optional toppings: chia seeds, coconut shavings, star fruit, nuts, edible flowers, pomegranate seeds


Cut Pineapple in half lengthwise, and scoop out pineapple to create two bowls. Add pineapple pieces to blender, and blend all ingredients together (save for the optional toppings). Divide smoothie mixture between two pineapple halves. Arrange toppings as desired and enjoy!
