How to Have a Girls’ Workation Weekend

How to Have a Girls' Workation Weekend | Architect Abroad

When you just need to get away from it all, but don’t have the time for travel days.

When you want to bounce ideas off someone who just gets it.

When you could really use some girl time.

What do you do when you find yourself needing all the above? You book a girls’ workation!

Annika of Ferweh Society and I found ourselves needing exactly that, so we spent a girls’ workation weekend taking full advantage of the Club Lounge at the Intercontinental Hotel in downtown Toronto.

We spent almost the entire length of our stay in our hotel’s plush bathrobes. We drank champagne and indulged in chocolate-covered strawberries. We chatted about work, our blogs, balancing the two (the struggle is real), our relationships and just life. We read magazines, went hottubing, and ended the night ordering in Thai take-out while watching crime TV. The next day, we took our breakfast in bed and had a leisurely morning eating croissants and drinking alll the coffee. I ended my stay by squeezing in some work, and working out at the hotel’s gym.

By the end of it I was so ready to tackle Monday.

Here are my tips on having your own girls’ workation weekend:

PICK THE RIGHT PLACE

We had previously toured the Club InterContinental’s refresh and loved the large-sized rooms, 24-hour access to the club lounge, the views, and the downtown location. For a winter workation, is the perfect place to hideaway without ever having to leave the hotel, which gave us the exact excuse we needed to stay in our bathrobes all weekend long!

COME PREPARED

Bring snacks. Or just champagne. Make sure you have champagne, or order in a bottle from room service! I brought freshly-baked cookies, and the rest of the time we took advantage of the club lounge’s snacks and drinks.

DO WHAT YOU FEEL LIKE DOING

When you’re balancing work life, days are planned out to a tee, following schedules, time blocking, and managing precious time. While we wanted to have a productive weekend, we actually arrived without a plan. We ended up just feeling the weekend out, and it ended up being exactly what we needed!
