While the countryside of Slovenia makes you feel as if you are as far removed from civilization as possible (in a good way), it’s capital city transports you right back into the most modern of urban life.
The beautiful city is filled with the impeccably-dressed cool crowd, hovering at trendy restaurant patios and outdoor cafes. With car traffic restricted in the downtown core, locals and tourists take to strolling down the cobblestoned streets, making Ljubljana feel like how the rest of Europe used to be. The river bisecting the city is lined by leafy banks, as well as easy cyclist routes, making it impossibly easy to traverse the (albeit small) city centre.

Did I mention the shopping is amazing? With a mix of department stores and little curated shops, there is literally something for everyone. I happily picked up witty art prints, gorgeous home accessories (a gold-plated cheese grater anyone?), and designer shoes for a fraction of the cost elsewhere in Europe. No wonder everyone is so impeccably dressed and every space is so beautifully designing.
The other standout gem of Ljubljana is its incredible restaurants and charming cafes. When I first saw images of Robba Cafe on a design website, I knew it had to be one of my stops cafe hopping through Ljubljana. After spending a couple days drinking many a coffees, and eating snacks along the way, all the Ljubljana cafes did not disapoint.
