an Architect Abroad Award

an Architect Abroad has been nominated for the Liebster award!
I am completely honoured to receive such recognition from the blogger community.

Thank you to The Yellow Lemons for nominating me!

What is the Liebster award?

The Liebster award is an award for new and upcoming bloggers, nominated by bloggers. It is a way to aid discovery of new blogs and to connect, support and encourage within the blogging community.

1. What inspired you to start blogging?

The idea to start blogging came from the sheer need to express myself creatively, when I wasn’t necessarily able to at my day-job. I felt like I had SO many ideas and thoughts to share, and prided myself on my aesthetic taste, so I combined all of that into my first namesake blog, . Then, as I quit my job, packed my bags, and bought a one-way ticket halfway around the world, I wanted a place that I could share my travel journey, while still maintaining the lifestyle component. Thus, was born!

2. How did you come up with your blog name?

I’m an architect by training and profession. As I moved away from my Canadian hometown to a tiny island in the middle of the Mediterranean, I wanted to create a place where I could blog about my travels from a design point of view. Plus, I really like alliterations. Thus, an Architect Abroad was born.

3. What do you love about blogging?

I love the free-range to be able to post about whatever I like. Each blog post differs from the next, and I like to have control over that. I also really enjoy how much of a creativity brainstorm blogging can be. Above all else, blogging for me is incredibly fun!

4. What do you not love about blogging? (with honesty)

Hours in doesn’t necessarily equate to readership. If you build it, they won’t simply come. Some days I feel like I’m really grinding my wheel without any sort of reward or even acknowledgement. Luckily, I love doing it, so it doesn’t matter if only my Mom & Best Friend read it.

5. What inspires and motivate’s you to keep on blogging?

My head is constantly bursting with ideas and inspiration, and I need a place where I can let that all out. Also, my frequent travels are way too wonderful not to share!

6. What advice would you give to other’s wanting to start a blog?

Ask yourself why, and how you’ll stand out from the crowd. Invest in a quality camera, and pick a great blog theme. With the millions of blogs out there these days, it needs to be well-curated and of a high calibre. That does not mean to say it needs to be fancy (often simple is best), just well-done.

7. What are your top three favourite blogs?

Cupcakes & Cashmere
Design Love Fest
Gal Meets Glam

8. What camera and Len’s do you use for blogging?

A Canon Rebel with the 17-50mm F2.8 Tamron Lens

9. What would you like people to gain from your blog?

I’d hope that visitors to an Arhitect Abroad gain some sort of inspiration, at the very least -whether to try out a new recipe or a new outfit look – or, to gain solid information – like what to see/do/eat on an upcoming trip.

10. Tells us something interesting about yourself?

I’m a professionally-trained architect with a fascniation for living abroad, and love for all things design, dumbbells, sparkle, and cookie dough.

I’ve rounded up a few interesting tidbits including all my favourite travel moments and what I can’t travel without here.

11. What can we expect from your blog in the coming month’s?

This past year I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many different countries and see so many different places. I have thousands of unpublished photographs, hundreds of travel tips, and many memories yet to share!

Thank you to anyone that has been reading along on my adventures. You have no idea how much I appreciate your support!

Now, I’d like to recognize some incredible bloggers that I follow and recommend you to too! I kept my nominations close to home, as I’d like to recognize these incredible Canadian blogs, most of whom hail from my hometown of Toronto, Canada.
